Postcards from Delta Junction, Alaska

Back in June, my pops and I were lucky enough to get the chance to spend a few days with some family we hadn’t seen in way too long.  We spent 4 fun filled, and luckily long, days with my cousin and his family up in North Pole (just outside of Fairbanks) and saw some beautiful scenery along the way.  While trying to choose photo highlights for a previous post, I came across some fun photos from our day at Delta Junction.  Karen, my cousin’s wife, is from Delta Junction, and her parents own some land out on a beautiful lake.  So, on day 2 of our adventure, we woke up to a road trip, a road trip to Delta Junction, a small town about 100 miles southeast of Fairbanks, where we spent the day with her family and friends eating, boating, and fishing.  With a car full of people…and a dog, the scenic drive passed quickly.  But the scenery didn’t stop there.  The setting of our get together was really beautiful.  Even our noise and activity could not wreck the sense of calm that came with being out there on the lake.  It felt as if time had slowed and really allowed us to enjoy the moment.  I’ve shared several photos previously (here), but here are a few more, a few showing off a little bit more of the character of the place.

Who needs the green? We can work on our line drives from here…and the water is so clear that you can go collect the balls on a kayak!

The merging of two rivers. You can see where the glacier silted water of the Tenana meets the fresh water flowing from the lake where Karen’s parents own land.

Photo taken by Todd Denny…or one of his offspring, dunno, but it’s beautiful.  Pops out fishing.

and a few of the characters…  As I’ve said before, Karen’s neice, this little girl, needs her own talk show.  She’s a real character and is an amazing storyteller!
